X-Tube™ TechnologyAt low frequencies both X-Tube™ and conventional stranded/solid core speaker cables convey signals in a linear way. However, at high frequencies, X-TubeTM retains a near-linear signal transfer, whereas the conventional cables fail to conduct uniformly across the entire conductor area. In standard speaker cables at high frequencies current flow is highest at the periphery with rapidly deteriorating current density towards the centre of the conductor. The effect of this is to reduce the actual cross sectional area of the cable at 15kHz to less than 75% of that at low frequencies. This results in higher distortion and compromises the performance of the cable. X-TubeTM with polycore technology exhibits much lower self-inductance and is therefore less affected by this problem. The polycore technology reduces loop inductance to levels only achievable using more costly and difficult to terminate cables. The result is more high frequency detail, less distortion and greater performance. |

Termination
This cable is professionally terminated by Futureshop's expert engineers using QED's superb 24 Carat gold plated AIRLOC termination plugs.
AIRLOC is QED's specialised loudspeaker termination method and offers the very best termination with QED speaker cables. This is a solder-free, airtight fusion between the cable and plug offering optimum signal transfer, excellent signal quality and perfect long-term performance.
QED’s AIRLOC FORTE metal banana and spade plugs deliver a superior performance over many plugs offered by rival manufacturers for the following reasons. Firstly, the plug is crimped around the conductors under high pressure using a special tool supplied by QED. No soldering is used and as a result the conductors are in contact with the plug 360 degrees which maximises the surface area contact. Furthermore, the banana plug itself is in contact with the binding post again at 360 degrees. The net effect of this is it maximises the signal transfer from the plug into your equipment and hence a superior performance. When bare wire is used not all the conductors are in contact with the binding post and as a result some loss occurs.
Unfortunately the metal barrels for the AIRLOC spades were discontinued in 2012 however we still use genuine QED’s AIRLOC spade plugs with genuine QED heat shrinks over the spade plugs. This ensures every QED speaker cable comes fully terminated with the best of QED's engineering.

Now my bad for not checking that Denon/ Marantz AV receivers do NOT support the use of spade connectors as I was hoping to barrel these jumpers into my speaker cables and bi-wire my LR speakers I guess they'd work if used as intended on the terminals on the back of the speaker but watch out for potential shorting!

Opened, Don't, smooth & Cohesive sound...
Even the spade ends were terminated in a way that is angled well to connect easily. Well thought out and designed! Recommended to give it a try.
My old cables were ok, but the flabby, poorly controlled bass was driving me nuts. I had to use the tone controls on my amp to compensate for unwanted and sometimes strident bass colouration. On playing music through the QEDs though, it became apparent that the tone controls were no longer necessary. I just press the defeat button, leave it there, and let the new cables do the controlling for me – in all music genres I listen to. Everything seems cleaner and more detailed. The mid/upper register can get a little harsh at higher volumes - my only criticism.
My old album favourites like Talk Talk’s “Laughing Stock” and "Spirit of Eden" now have a new lease of life. Mark Hollis’ voice sounds even more beautiful and expressive. The ride cymbals stand out in sounding delicate and detailed rather than a fizzly incoherent high frequency mush. The atmosphere and ambience of this album has been transformed, and all the musical light and dark is now there to hear and absorb – and to even get quite emotional about. I’m looking forward to blowing the dust off the other old favourites to see what else I’ve been missing.
I don’t normally write reviews about shops, but this one is a deserving exception. I got Futureshop to burn-in the cables for 72 hours and to fit QED Airloc bananas, with spades on the jumper cables. Delivery was lightning-fast with everything packaged up well and protected. Futureshop is one of those outfits that you feel really wants to help, and who still respects the now fading concept of customer satisfaction; long may that continue, and good on them!
"To connect the Q Acoustics Concept 40 to the Marantz PM6006 amp.QED XT-40 cables in 2x3 meters with banana plugs. Very good choice to reveal all frequencies, especially on serious short-term infras. Beautiful aeration of the spectrum. No coloring on this set. Everything is well placed. Fabulous clean made, magnified by QED XT-40.

Très bon choix pour révéler l'ensemble des fréquences, notamment sur des infras graves un peu courts. Belle aération du spectre. Aucune coloration sur cet ensemble. Tout est bien placé. Fabuleux rendu propre, magnifié par les QED XT-40.

The differences introduced by only 20 cm of cable are amazing.
The stage is much wider, like being at a live concert.
I have to do more testing but the first impressions are positive.
You lose a bit of perfection in favor of a greater involvement.
