ADOT Fibre Optic Gigabit Network Conversion Kit MC01/02/03
This suite of Ethernet Media Converters by ADOT use fibre-optic components to simplify isolation for your hifi system. The MC01 kit features the Media Converter, two SFP's, a 1.5m fibre cable and a basic power supply. The MC02 features the same, but with a linear power supply. The MC03 features a superior power supply, custom-built by PLiXiR. This product is designed for use with the Melco S100 or other switches with SFP ports. For use with systems that do not feature SFP connections, you will need to additionally purchase the MC Accessory.

ADOT's demonstrators used a contemporary favourite for testing: Birds by Dominique Fils-Aimé. Its minimalist instrumentation and Dominique's panned layered vocals filled the stereo image. Feeding our Melco N5 streamer, we began with the MC02's linear power supply. Compared with listening with no ADOT at all, it instantly made the song punchier with more powerful lower-mids; vocal layers began pleasantly separating.
Swapping to a single-mode cable dug deeper still into the mix, splitting apart the tonal range of Dominique's overdubbed lines. As we further upgraded our ADOT setup, we discovered just how much was going on with the subtleties of the track's percussion. The delicate nuances of the percussive taps revealed how dynamic the production of this music was. What ADOT say
Designing a fibre unit for hi-fi systems is a challenge. Because fibre is used in IT systems primarily for speed, and hi-fi doesn’t need fibre for speed, it needs it for clarity!
In fact, reducing the comms speed of the MC01 to 100Mb/s improves the sound quality of a network player. This is possible simply by setting a couple of switches. Internally, the construction of MC01 is to Enterprise Standards and this extends to the massive Ethernet magnetics that couple to the copper part of the network.
SFP adapters
There are many choices of fibre configuration and wavelength (colour) of the optical transfer. Audiophile DOT simplifies the decision by supplying a matched pair of Duplex SFP adapters with matched fibre.
Fibre
The fibre has to match the design parameters of the SFP adapters and so the Duplex fibre that is supplied is paired with the SFP adapters. Connectivity of the fibre adapters is critical and the terminations are all factory-made in clean-room conditions. 1.5m lengths mean that the devices can be tucked out of the way behind a hi-fi system.
There is a limit of several hundred metres for the fibre link. The fibre is also less than 3mm in diameter, and so is ideally suited for making the connection between the router and the hi-fi system, even in the largest homes or between buildings.
Audiophile DOT can supply standard lengths of optical fibre up to 50m; all are clean-room-assembled with individual performance tables supplied with each cable.

Why upgrade?
Analogue audio is delicate. Digital audio is just as delicate, plus digital data needs to be treated with the utmost respect to achieve the results that today’s high-resolution digital music files promise.
The reason is simple.
Behind the 0’s and 1’s, hi-fi electrical signals are still analogue, and just as susceptible to the influence from noise and interference. This additional noise damages the integrity of the pulse edges. This uncertain transition point, of a noisy pulse edge, results in timing errors and jitter. Using a high-performance audiophile data switch, such as the Melco S100, ensures that the data is as pristine as possible and switch management ensures that errant data packets are not presented to the hi-fi system. But, the Ethernet cabling is still a risk, being connected to noisy IT-type devices in the home and the cable is also an effective antenna, capturing EMC from the environment. Copper wire, used for Ethernet cables, is effective at conducting data, but is equally effective at conducting all manner of interference as well.
The solution is simple too.
By breaking the conducted signal, we remove the interference and isolate the hi-fi system. This is done with fibre optics––now the data can be communicated to the digital components, but without any risk of introducing any conducted interference and noise.

Copper is converted to fibre and back
Each kit includes a media converter, two SFP modules, fibre and a linear power supply. Ethernet from your router or switch is converted to light, carried along the fibre, then converted back to Ethernet at your streamer. That breaks the electrical connection between the two ends, which is known as galvanic isolation.
The fibre is duplex multimode
ADOT uses duplex multimode fibre working at 850nm. The standard length is 1.5m, and custom lengths are available. Each fibre is supplied with a test report, and the terminations are made in clean-room conditions. If your streamer sits further from your switch than 1.5m, check the length you need before ordering.
SFP modules do the translating
An SFP is a small plug-in transceiver that turns an electrical Ethernet signal into light and back again. The kit includes two of them, matched to the converter and the fibre, so the link is supplied as one package. The linear power supply is included for the converter, which means you do not need to source one separately.

Copper is converted to fibre and back
Each kit includes a media converter, two SFP modules, fibre and a linear power supply. Ethernet from your router or switch is converted to light, carried along the fibre, then converted back to Ethernet at your streamer. That breaks the electrical connection between the two ends, which is known as galvanic isolation.
The fibre is duplex multimode
ADOT uses duplex multimode fibre working at 850nm. The standard length is 1.5m, and custom lengths are available. Each fibre is supplied with a test report, and the terminations are made in clean-room conditions. If your streamer sits further from your switch than 1.5m, check the length you need before ordering.
SFP modules do the translating
An SFP is a small plug-in transceiver that turns an electrical Ethernet signal into light and back again. The kit includes two of them, matched to the converter and the fibre, so the link is supplied as one package. The linear power supply is included for the converter, which means you do not need to source one separately.

Good level of isolation. Supplied as a complete kit with a universal voltage power adapter
The MC02 kit
Better level of isolation. Supplied with a linear power supply that ensures no additional noise is generated
The MC02 DUAL kit
This comprises of the MC02 kit and the MC Accessory (listed below). It is effectively and MC02 designed for compatibility with non-SFP devices.
The MC03 kit - NP or PLIX
The ultimate solution, supplied with a NuPrime LPS-205 linear power supply (MC03 NP), or a custom build PLiXiR Elite BDC 2A low noise power supply with 3 stage noise reduction (MC03 PLIX).
We use Royal Mail 1st Class services for our Standard Delivery.
Orders received before 4.30 pm Monday to Friday are usually dispatched the same day by FIRST CLASS post (unless premium postal or timed courier services are selected), subject to stock availability. This does not apply to custom-length cables and speaker cables as these require a longer timescale to terminate. This also excludes all cables selected for the burn-in service. Please note, we do not process orders on national holidays in the UK. Over 98% of our orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays.
Standard delivery is usually within 2 working days, although 98% of all orders are delivered the next working day including Saturdays. In extreme cases, such as delivery to the Highlands and Islands, this may take 3 days.
All items are fully insured and come with an invoice from Future Shop. We use the Royal Mail for delivery of small packages and DPD Local or DHL for items that weigh over 2KG. Items over 2KG are fully insured and will usually be delivered within 48 hours of placing your order subject to stock availability. For international orders, we use FedEx or DHL services where customers have selected this option.
Please note, special orders for non-standard cable lengths may be subject to longer deliver time-scales. This may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

We accept orders from all Channel Islands including Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. Unless you select a premium service, Items weighing under 2KG are delivered using our standard UK delivery option above. For items weighing over 2KG, a surcharge may be applied for all deliveries to the Channel Islands as well as Northern Ireland.
European Countries
Deliveries to EU member states are not subject to 20% VAT after December 31st 2020 and therefore the 20% VAT on items is automatically deducted when you log-in, register or proceed to place an order.
The customer will be liable for the VAT at the local VAT rate, duty on the import and the brokerage service fee if applicable. This may need to be paid in advance to your local Customs & Excise office or the delivery company before your order can be delivered.
