Designing AV distribution that works
AV distribution is a design job before it is a shopping job. Get the source count, display count, distances and control method clear first, and the hardware choice usually follows without much argument.
Three questions decide most systems. How many sources need to reach how many displays, and does every display need independent access to every source? What is the longest cable run, and can it be Cat6 or does it need fibre? What audio has to come out of the video path, and where does it need to arrive? Answer those and the specification largely writes itself.
The details that cause problems later are EDID handling, HDCP version support and control integration. A system that works on day one can fail when a source is replaced with one using a newer HDCP version, so specify with some headroom. IR, RS232 and IP control all need planning at design stage rather than after the cable is in the wall. If you are specifying a system, send us the layout and we will work through it with you.
