Designed as a range to accommodate any size and weight of speaker – standmount plus stand, floorstander or subwoofer – the Seismic Podium breaks the acoustic connection between the floor and the speaker, preventing the passage of deleterious vibrations both to and from the speaker cabinets.
The Importance of Vibration Isolation
Vibrations affect the reproduction of sound through hi-fi systems. Although many of these are small and may go largely unnoticed, vibrations have a negative impact on the quality of sound in virtually all hi-fi components.
- Turntables are highly sensitive to vibration, which raises the noise floor, degrading the sound not to mention stylus jump due to footfall.
- With silver-disc players, vibration affects the laser mechanism and the crystal oscillators introducing severe sound-degrading jitter.
- With tube or valve amplifiers vibration rattles the microphonic electrodes, especially the grids.
- Transistor amplifiers have microphonic components, including capacitors and connecting wires which move relative to one and another generating rogue voltages. All of these mechanisms will degrade the delicate audio signal.
- Computers, streamers and DACs are highly susceptible to mechanical noise as they all contain vibration sensitive crystal oscillators.
Rigidly spike or cone mounted speakers transmit energy into the floor radiating vibration throughout the room and ultimately, through your rack and into your equipment. This seriously degrades performance as described above. Spike and cone mounted speakers cause the whole room structure to vibrate, often resulting in an unrealistic boomy bass whilst masking subtle detail. Further, this unwanted structural vibration can seriously irritate your neighbours.
Available in five standard sizes (or to special order to accommodate true behemoths), each Podium platform utilizes Townshend’s innovative ‘Captive’ Load Cell technology to provide a stable four-square footprint that extends well beyond the perimeter of the speaker cabinet. This also allows easy fine levelling adjustment of each Load Cell via a rotatable top cap while, on the bottom, is an adjustable foot to compensate for out-of true floors. The tough black steel platform has a large area treadplate that accommodates any shape of medium to large speaker or sub-woofer, with or without spikes. The Seismic Podiums are suitable for wood, tile or carpeted floors. Total speaker height is increased by only 20mm (3/4”).
The secret is to fully float your whole Hi Fi System independently from the speakers and the floor. Townshend have devised a complete solution that to allow this to be done in an optimum way.
Seismic Load Cell™
The key component is the Townshend Seismic Load Cell™. The Seismic Load Cell™ consists of a high quality alloy steel compression spring surrounded by a flexible synthetic rubber jacket with two end plates. Screw threads in each plate facilitate height adjustment and provide attachment points. A movement-sensitive, air-resistance damper rapidly dissipates low frequency oscillation caused by disturbing the suspended equipment. Seismic Load Cells™ are very ‘soft’ and allow free movement in all three dimensions; up/down, left/right and back/forth. This unique solution blocks all deleterious vibration from 3Hz upwards and from all directions. As the frequency increases, the isolation gets progressively greater, ensuring that virtually no vibration can pass from and to the suspended equipment. As each hi-fi component is isolated, the sound progressively improves.

Channel Islands & Northern Ireland
We accept orders from all Channel Islands including Alderney, Jersey, Guernsey and Sark. Unless you select a premium service, Items weighing under 2KG are delivered using our standard UK delivery option above. For items weighing over 2KG, a surcharge may be applied for all deliveries to the Channel Islands as well as Northern Ireland.
European Countries
Deliveries to EU member states are not subject to 20% VAT after December 31st 2020 and therefore the 20% VAT on items is automatically deducted when you log-in, register or proceed to place an order.
The customer will be liable for the VAT at the local VAT rate, duty on the import and the brokerage service fee if applicable. This may need to be paid in advance to your local Customs & Excise office or the delivery company before your order can be delivered.

- DHL Express International - Items are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours. DHL orders must be received by 3:30pm for next day service to most destinations in Europe
- Federal Express International Priority - Items are usually delivered within 24 to 48 hours. FedEx orders must be received by 3.00pm for next day service to most destinations in Europe.
- Federal Express International Economy - Item are usually delivered within 48 to 72 hours.

If we need to change your shipping method, we will choose the least expensive shipping method for your order.

I bought the size five podiums, placed them under my speakers, and everything changed.
I was now presented with super-bright mids and highs, things I'd totally missed when my bass was dominant. I reduced the toe in of my speakers and increased the gain and crossover on my REL subwoofer, and bang, a nailed-on, expressive and in control soundstage. I can now play music at a volume without bloom or muddiness. I can hear individual bass notes, and listen for hours without fatigue.
Massively recommend.
Having installed the SIPs, the music is very enjoyable, and I can adjust the speaker’s position in the room easily by pushing the stands around. The large deflection of the mounts and the low natural frequency of the speaker on the stand when it is rocked is reassuring that the stands are doing their job. I cannot say that the difference is night and day between the spikes and the SIPs, but I agree with other reviews about how the sound has changed, plus it has given me a better speaker position which will be contributing more benefits.
I have only awarded 4 stars because they seem expensive for what you get. The engineering of the SIPs is adequate but not luxurious, the packaging is cheap, and they are pretty ugly. They would look fine in a workshop, but in a living room, they take some getting used to.
More detail, less boom, tighter bass with less transference to neighbours. Fab product, highly recommended.
The Podiums are easy to set up thanks to the instructions included with the units. I heard an immediate and obvious improvement in my system's sound. Specifically, bass was more tuneful and precise while image solidity and depth were vastly improved.
Acoustic space around voices and instruments was much better resolved. Overall, the system projects a much greater vividness on all types of music resulting in a more enjoyable, engaging and enveloping listening experience.
The SIPs aren't cheap but represent tremendous value if you want to get closer to realising the full potential of your existing speakers.
I believe the SIPs overturn the conventional wisdom that speakers should be coupled directly to the floor on spikes or solid footers.
I would recommend them strongly.
It now adds to the musical experience rather than masking it. Great product, superbly made. I bought them from Future Shop Ltd and they were on the phone hours after ordering on line, making sure that I received the correct podia for my make and weight of speakers. Great service!
