Getting a signal across a building
An extender sends HDMI further than a cable can reliably carry it, by converting the signal for transmission over structured cable or fibre and converting it back at the far end. It is a transmitter and receiver pair, and both ends have to match.
Choose the transport by distance and by what the building already has. HDBaseT over Cat6a covers most residential distances and carries control signals alongside the video, which saves running separate cable for IR or RS232. Fibre goes further and is immune to electrical interference, which suits long runs and noisy environments. Wireless solves rooms where no cable can be run, at the cost of latency and reliability compared with a wired link.
Two things to confirm before ordering: the resolution and refresh rate the extender supports at the distance you actually need, since ratings usually drop at longer runs, and whether the receiver is powered locally or over the cable. Cat cable quality matters more here than in a data network, and solid core Cat6a correctly terminated is the baseline. Tell us the distance and what has to travel with the video.
